Backup Solution
A Backup Solution is software and
services used to perform a complete
backup of a file, data, database,
system or server. The backup solution
allows you to make an exact duplicate of
everything contained on the original
source. This solution must also be able
to perform a recovery of the data
or system in the event of a disaster.
Choosing the right backup solution is
very important. Different software uses
different methods to backup data. For
example, some solutions will backup only
to tape, while others will
backup to
disk. Some solutions will be a purchased
service which will allow you to backup
your data to an off-site location on
outside-party hardware. Some software
solutions will use a file-by-file method
to perform a backup, while other
software backup an entire volume or
drive to the hardware you specify.
Some things to consider when choosing a
backup solution are the length of time
it will take to back up your systems and
data, the reliability of the hardware on
which your back up will be stored, the
experience of the developers of a
software solution or the availability of
the data if it is housed on
outside-party hardware using an off-site
solution.
