Backup System

A backup system is software or services used to perform a backup of files, data, databases, systems or servers. These are often software solutions which are purchased from a software developer.

Another type of backup system is an off-site backup, sometimes called an automatic backup or a backup service. It’s also used to perform an online backup of your business data and allows you to have a remote copy of your business-critical data that can be used in the event of a disaster. They are also off-site, which adds an extra level of protection in the event of a disaster. The service charge for these systems depends on your contract – it can be based on time (monthly, quarterly, yearly), the amount of data you’re backing up, or both.

When looking at backup systems there are many things to consider. Many software based systems require you to hire dedicated personnel to manage your backup. However, some newer backup and disaster recovery programs allow you to schedule your backups and leave it alone – basically, you set it and forget it.  Services can allow you this same level of protection without the necessary personnel to manage your backup system. But they can also cost a great deal of money.

Whatever system you choose, you should be certain that you are able to perform a recovery of your data or system in the event of a disaster.
